RELATIVELY LOW FORWARD EARNINGS YIELD IN THE COMPUTER HARDWARE INDUSTRY

Below are the lowest five companies in the Computer Hardware industry based on estimated Forward Earnings Yields. Using projected earnings for the current fiscal year, the forward earnings yield is useful to compare a stock's return vs. owning a similar stock or other yield assets (e.g. bonds). Generally, the higher the earnings yield, the more undervalued the stock.
Concurrent Computer (NASDAQ:CCUR ) has the lowest Forward Earnings Yield of 0.80%; Cray (NASDAQ:CRAY) is next with a Forward Earnings Yield of 2.51%; and Stratasys (NASDAQ:SSYS) has the next lowest with a Forward Earnings Yield of 3.91%.

First Ultrabook Arrives from Acer October 16 for $900

Monday various reports pointed to an Amazon listing that revealed the 13.3-inch Acer Aspire S3-951 as the first ultrabook to land in the States. According to the listing, the super-slim device will officially arrive on October 16 just under Intel's sub-$1000 target price point, costing $899.99 USD. Acer later backed up the listing with an official press release on Monday, announcing the ultrabook's arrival.
"This featherweight Ultrabook powers on instantly, connects to the Web in seconds and provides up to 50 days of stand-by time, or 6 hours of continuous usage," the company said Monday. "As slim and easy to carry as a magazine, it includes a powerful Intel Core i5 Processor, speedy solid state drive for quickly booting the operating system, roomy hard drive, and essential USB and HDMI ports."
According to the specs, the device sports a 13.3-inch HD widescreen CineClear LED-backlit display with a 1366 x 768 resolution, Intel's second-generation Core i5-2467M CPU clocked at 1.6 GHz, integrated Intel HD Graphics 3000 with 128 MB of dedicated system memory and 4 GB of RAM. Windows 7 Home Premium is installed on a 20 GB SSD while an additional 320 GB 5200RPM hard drive is available for media and other file storage.
As for other features, the ultrabook provides a 2-in-1 card reader, 802.11 b/g/n connectivity, Bluetooth 4.0 + HS, a 1.3MP HD webcam (1280 x 1084), two USB 2.0 ports, one HDMI port with HDCP support, and a 3-cell Lithium polymer battery promising up to 8 hours. The device measures just half-an-inch at its thinnest and weighs a mere 2.98 pounds (depending on the configuration), and its overall dimensions are 12.59 inches by 8.52-inches by .51 to.68-inches, making it "one of the thinnest notebooks available on the market."
"The Acer Aspire Ultrabook also includes numerous design elements that keep the system running cool and efficiently," the company said. "All the heat generating components have been placed away from the palm rest and touchpad area, and warm air is funneled away from the user through the back of the Ultrabook.  Venting throughout the keyboard also helps the system stay cool, and its vent-free bottom allows it to be used comfortably on a lap or pillow, without fear of obstructing air flow and overheating.  In addition, airflow is optimized to enhance efficiency and lower power consumption to help increase system battery life."

Marketers struggle to harness social media


Marketing chiefs feel overwhelmed by the growing volume of customer data on websites like Facebook and Twitter.
Only 26 percent of chief marketing officers track blogs and just 40 percent track any online communications, while 82 percent still rely on traditional market research to shape marketing strategies, according to the study.
But most CMOs are struggling to prove that investments in social media marketing would yield returns, according to the survey of more than 1,700 CMOs published on Tuesday and carried out in face-to-face interviews from February to June.
"The perfect solution is to serve each consumer individually. The problem? There are 7 billion of them," said one CMO at a consumer-products firm in the survey.
Some 82 percent said they planned to increase their use of social media over the next 3-5 years.
IBM, along with other technology firms and big advertising agencies, is seeking to capitalise on the need of marketers to analyse data being created and shared on sites like Twitter and YouTube or by email.
Facebook has more than 800 million active users, while Twitter users send about 200 million tweets per day.
IBM estimated that more than 90 percent of all real-time information being created today are unstructured -- and has spent $14 billion in the past five years on acquisitions of analytics companies to fulfil that new demand.
"We have entered the age of the smarter consumer," IBM marketing executive Marcel Holsheimer told journalists at a briefing in London.
"Marketing is going to become much more an automated and software play than it was in the past. This is why IBM is now making the investment in this space."

Toshiba ultra-thin AT700 tablet specs


Toshiba has underlined its commitment to boosting its tabletbusiness with a 10.1-inch Android slate it calls the thinnest and lightest in the world.
People are lining up here at Ceatec 2011 outside of Tokyo to check out the RegzaAT700, which runs on Android 3.2, is 7.7mm (0.3 inches) thick, and weighs 558 grams (1.23 pounds).
Toshiba also announced a 7-inch version, the AT3S0, at 12.1mm thick and weighing 379 grams (0.83 pound).
 AT700 and AT3S0 run version 3.2 of Android, have 1GB of memory, 1,280x800-pixel resolution, and Resolution+ upscaling technology to improve low-resolution video.

The AT700 seems very similar to Toshiba'sAT200 introduced last month at the IFA trade show in Berlin.
Indeed, it also has a 1.2 GHz dual-core TI OMAP 4430 processor, 1GB of RAM, and 32GB of internal memory. Sensors include a digital compass, accelerometer, gyroscope, and GPS.
It also has a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 2-megapixel camera in front.
 AT700 and AT3S0 are designed to link to Regza TVs and Blu-ray players via a Wi-Fi router.
Both tablets will launch in mid-December in Japan. Prices haven't been released yet.

HP Compaq 8200 Elite PC for Business

HP recently launched its new Compaq 8200 Elite all-in-one desktop PC which is aimed at enterprise, midmarket and public sector customers. It is powered by Intel’s second generation Core Processors up to Core i7-2600s, it comes with up to 8GB of RAM, up to 1TB of Hard Drive storage, an integrated graphics card and slim tray-load DVD burner.
It comes equipped with a 23-inch Full HD 1920×1080 LCD display, it features integrated 2.0 stereo speakers with SRS Premium Sound support, it supports WiFi 802.11 b/g/n connectivity, a 6-in-1 card reader and starts at $949 for its base model.

Apple iPad makes up 97.2 percent of tablet web browsing in USA.


Customers in the USA may be buying tablets other than the iPad (though, not very many), but it doesn't seem like they are using them to browse the web, at least not according to comScore's latest numbers. According to the research firm's latest report, iPads accounted for a whopping 97.2 percent of all tablet web browsing in the month of August.

In addition to dominating the web usage for tablets, the iPad now accounts for more web usage than the iPhone, with 46.8 percent of total iOS traffic, compared to the iPhone's 42.6 percent.
Despite Android smartphones being more popular than the iPhone, the iPad's dominance in the tablet market gave iOS the lead when it came to total OS market share. Apple devices made up 43.1 percent of the market, as opposed to the 34.1 percent held by Android smartphones. RIM's BlackBerry OS was in third place, hanging on to a 15.4 percent market share. Apple's iOS also dominates internet traffic from mobile devices, capturing 58.5 percent of the market. Android had 31.9 percent of internet traffic, while BlackBerry had a measly 5 percent.
